INHURD, since its establishment in November, 2002 as CENHURD has performed excellently over the years but was greatly limited in scope and operation by its status as a Centre. The student enrolment over the years increased to over 2,500 students which is an indication of a strong demand for the programmmes being offered by the Centre.

The University Management, in recognition of these limitations, challenged the management of the then CENHURD to present proposal for the transformation of the Centre to an Institute. This proposal was presented to the University Senate for consideration and approval. This was approved at its 181st statutory meeting of May 27, 2010. With this transformation, INHURD now possesses a higher profile and capacity for recognition and more clientele, enlarged scope to develop and to offer and run more programmes at sub-degree, undergraduate, professional and post-graduate levels.

2. AIMS
The aims of establishing CENHURD are as follows:

(i) to facilitate educational development by providing quality academic programmes for qualified candidates at Pre-University level.
(ii) to provide gainful employment to people within the community.
(iii) to generate revenue to the University without jeopardizing the quality of service to the Community.
The name was later changed to Institute for Human Resources Development in 2010. The initial programmmes of the Institute were Pre-Degree, Diploma and Certificate courses. This was replaced by Foundation Science Programme. The Institute moved from Isale-Igbein to its permanent site at Mawuko Village, Odeda Local Government Area in June, 2010.

The construction of the permanent site for the Institute was officially commissioned in June, 2010. This new campus of the Institute offers a unique opportunity for consideration of all existing INHURD programmes and development of new and demand-driven programmes.
