Newly-inducted members of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria have been advised to make themselves highly valuable in the profession. Giving this piece of advice was the first Nigerian female Professor of Computer Science, Professor (Mrs.) Adenike Osofisan, at the 1st Induction Ceremony of Computer Science graduates of the University into the Council.

Professor Osofisan, who was the Guest Speaker at the epoch-making event, said the Council was established to teach basic principles in programming languages and packages, adding that the Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria was commited to protecting the interest of members of the public in their quest for information technology services. While re-iterating that an average Computer Scientist should always be financially comfortable, she encouraged the inductees to seek knowledge that would help them build fortunes in life.

The spouse of the Guest Speaker and literary giant, Professor Femi Osofisan, urged institutions in the country to insist on professionalism while awarding contracts in the area of information technology, as nonchalance in the engagement of professionals had contributed to the decline in the quality of services being rendered in the Nigerian society today. The Council’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sikiru Shehu, berated the country for degrading itself to a consuming nation and by not exporting much.He challenged the new members of the Council to go out and showcase their worth in the industry.

While admonishing new inductees, the Acting Head, Department of Computer Science, Dr. Adesina Sodiya, said the inductees should realise that the hallmark of their chosen profession was to become chartered IT professionals, as he urged them not to rest on their oars. Also speaking at the occasion, the Acting Dean, former College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS), Professor Adio Akinwale, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the enabling environment granted the College, which has now metamorphosed into the College of Biosciences (COLBOS) and College of Physical Sciences (COLPHY), in successfully hosting the 1st Induction Ceremony. He appealed for a central and comprehensive curriculum on the study of IT courses in Universities, which he noted, would complement the guidelines of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Adekojo Waheed, said FUNAAB was in the forefront at ensuring professionalism in the IT industry and would sustain the drive in its poise to becoming a world-class institution .
