The College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on January 24, 2025, held its 2nd Dean’s Honor List and Excellence Celebration for the 2023/2024 Academic Session. The event showcased the outstanding achievements of students in academics and sports.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Guest Speaker and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo, delivered an inspiring Keynote Address. A celebrated alumnus of FUNAAB with numerous awards of excellence, Prof. Adebayo shared his success story, motivating students to remain focused and strive for excellence in all endeavours.
Earlier in her Opening Remarks, the Dean of COLBIOS, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde, emphasised the significance of celebrating excellence to inspire students to aim higher. She assured attendees that the programme would be institutionalised as an annual tradition.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of Miss Oyeleke Ibukunoluwa Grace, a student from the Department of Microbiology, who received multiple awards, including the Overall Best Student award for the Department of Microbiology, the Prof. Sam Wobo Award, the Prof. Tope Popoola Award, and the Dean’s Award for the Overall Best Student in COLBIOS, for achieving an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.88.
Other awards were presented by Prof. Kehinde Ademolu, Prof. Saka Balogun, Dr. Adio Akamo, and Dr. Sunday Oyelakin to outstanding students across various levels in their respective Departments within the College.
In addition, COLBIOS athletes, both male and female, received cash donations from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) and the Dean in celebration of their outstanding performances at the 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Cup/Intercollegiate Sports competition.
The event drew notable attendees, including Dr. Adejare Oloyede, Deputy Dean, COLBIOS; Dr. Abiodun Oyelakin, Ag. Head, Department of Applied Botany; Prof. Saka Balogun, Head, Department of Microbiology; Dr. Beno Onunkwor, Ag. Head, Department of Biochemistry; former Dean of the defunct COLNAS, Prof. Tope Popoola, and the Director, Zoo Park, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo. Others in attendance were Prof. Aderonke Akintokun, Prof. Regina Ugbaja, as well as staff and students of the College.
The College of Biosciences remained committed to celebrating excellence and fostering a culture of achievement among its students.
