The academic programme in the Department is designed to provide the training needed for an understanding of the environment and to build upon this foundation by exploring in some depths, specific aspects such as resource depletion, recycling, re-use and the impact of science and technology on the environment. The Department has trained about five hundred students to date. Many of the students are working in government establishments, industries and others have gone for their post graduate programmes.

The programme rank among the most sort-for in the University because of increased public awareness to environmental matters. There is also increased collaboration between the Department and environmental related agencies such as FEPA, OGEPA and other non-governmental organizations.
