The 2025 Staff Unity Games of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) entered Day 6 today, July 14, 2025, with heightened excitement and thrilling displays of sportsmanship across various events including Squash, Badminton, Chess, Tennis, and Football.

In the football category, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office team delivered a resounding performance by defeating the COLPLANT team 5-0. The VCO team dominated the match with three goals in the first half and added two more in the second half. Another keenly contested encounter saw the Bursary/PR/Radio/UMFB/FIV team edge out the ICT/PG School/Health Centre team with a lone goal scored in the second half.

🔺 Squash Finals (Men & Women):

In the Men’s Final, Mr. Festus Dada of the VCO clinched the Gold Medal after defeating Mr. Victor Opakunle of the Bursary, who took Silver. The Bronze Medal was jointly awarded to Mr. Olaoye Oyewole (Bursary) and Dr. Olushola Adeleye (COLVET). For the Women’s category, Mrs. Takeet of COLVET emerged champion with the Gold Medal, while Mrs. David Olaleye of COLENDS earned Silver. Bronze Medals went to Mrs. Christine Awe-Mathias (COLVET) and Mrs. Khadijat Owoseni (Registry).

🔺 Badminton Finals (Men & Women):
In the Men’s final, Mr. Festus Dada (VCO) continued his impressive form to secure another Gold Medal. Mr. Benjamin Obinde (DUFARMS) came second with Silver, while Dr. Olushola Adeleye (COLVET) and Mr. Adebiyi Williams (DUFARMS) tied for third place. The Women’s final saw Mrs. Takeet (COLVET) taking Gold once again, followed by Mrs. David Olaleye (COLENDS) with Silver. Mrs. Oyewumi (COLENDS) and Mrs. Khadijat Owoseni (Registry) shared the Bronze.

🔺 Chess (Women’s Final):
Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi (VCO) secured Gold, followed by Mrs. Abigail Oroleye (COLENDS) with Silver, and Prof. Iyabode Kehinde (COLBIOS) with Bronze.

🔺 Tennis (Women’s Final):
The Tennis Women’s final featured a round-robin format with five players: Mrs. Olaleye (FUNAAB Staff School), Mrs. Aforinwo (VCO), Mrs. Christine Awe-Mathias (COLVET), Mrs. Khadijat Owoseni (Registry), and Mrs. Takeet (COLVET).
Mrs. Olaleye of COLENDS/FUNIS/Staff School emerged unbeaten, winning all four matches to claim the Gold Medal.
Second place went to Mrs. Awe-Mathias (COLVET) with two wins, edging out Mrs. Owoseni (Registry) on game difference.
Bronze was jointly awarded to Mrs. Owoseni and Mrs. Takeet.

The Staff Unity Games has continued to promote team spirit, wellness, and collaboration among FUNAAB staff, in line with the objectives of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

⚽ VCO vs BURSARY

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde and other members of the University Management are expected to grace the Grand Finale and Closing Ceremony, which would commence with a Final March Parade. All Colleges and Groups are encouraged to present their teams in full regalia, surpassing the vibrancy of the Opening Ceremony.

🏆 Trophies would be awarded to the overall best-performing College or Group.

A Novelty Match between the Management Team and the FUNAAB Falcons Babes would also take place before the finals wrap up the event.

Staff members are encouraged to turn out en masse and follow the programme as scheduled to celebrate unity through sports.
