3-Day FUNAAB Biotechnology Education Quiz Challenge Ends as Esther Olanrewaju Emerges Overall Winner

The 3-Day Biotechnology Education Quiz and Challenge organised by the Biotechnology Centre of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), successfully came to an end today, February 4, 2026, with Miss Esther Olanrewaju of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, FUNAAB, emerging as the overall winner. The competition, designed to promote scientific knowledge, innovation and sustained interest in biotechnology, featured keen intellectual contests among participants drawn from FUNAAB and other tertiary institutions.

Speaking during the closing ceremony held at the Biotechnology Centre, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Idowu, reiterated the University’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships, collaborations and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with relevant organisations.

He disclosed that FUNAAB had entered into several MoUs with reputable companies, adding that any new MoU, including the proposed collaboration with Katechey Company Limited, must be clearly defined in scope and application to ensure mutual benefits for all parties.

Earlier in the programme, the Representative of Inqaba Limited, Mr. Joseph Olorunmbe, and the Representative of Katechey Company Limited, Mrs. Happiness Egwuatu, gave brief overviews of their organisations’ operations, services and product offerings, while also highlighting potential areas of collaboration with academic and research institutions.

At the end of the contest, Miss Elizabeth Erinoso of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Ibadan, emerged as the First Runner-up, while Mr. David Alade of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, FUNAAB, finished as the Second Runner-up. Miss Joyce Ijelu, also of FUNAAB, clinched the Third Runner-up position. Cash prizes and gift items were presented to all the winners at the closing ceremony.

Dignitaries at the event included Emerita Professor Olufunmilayo Adebambo; former Directors of the Biotechnology Centre, Prof. Akinola Popoola and Prof. Olufunke Shittu; the current Director of the Centre, Prof. Ayotunde Adebambo; Dr. Kudirat Agboola; Dr. Damilola Adebambo, as well as members of staff of the Biotechnology Centre.

The organisers described the 3-Day challenge as a resounding success, noting that it further underscored FUNAAB’s commitment to advancing biotechnology education and nurturing scientific excellence.
