AAU Appoints Professors Sanni, Alegbeleye to Lead African Universities Experts Networks

The Association of African Universities (AAU) has appointed two esteemed Professors from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) to lead pivotal networks under its African Universities Experts initiative.

Prof. Lateef Sanni, the Executive Director of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) at FUNAAB has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Coordinating Team for the African Universities Experts in Agro-Processing and Food Networks.

A globally recognised scholar in Food Science and Technology, Prof. Sanni specialises in Post-Harvest Technology and Food Processing. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) and a member of the International Association of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST), among other prestigious organisations. The appointment highlights his exceptional leadership and expertise in advancing food systems and agro-processing in Africa.

Joining him is Prof. Wilfred Olusegun Alegbeleye, a distinguished Professor of Fisheries and Aquaculture, who has been named a member of the Coordinating Team for the African Universities Experts in Climate Resonance, Oceans, Sustainable Water Use, Marine Resources, and Fisheries Network.

A former Dean of the Postgraduate School at FUNAAB, Prof. Alegbeleye is a leading voice in fisheries and aquaculture. His affiliations included the Nigerian Association of Aquatic Scientists and the World Aquatic Scientific Society. His appointment underscores his commitment to research and sustainable innovation in aquatic sciences and climate-related issues.

The African Universities Experts Networks were established by the AAU to foster collaboration among universities across the continent. These networks aim to enhance teaching, learning, and research in key thematic areas while promoting staff and student mobility within Africa.

Both appointments, which commenced on November 10, 2024, would span three years and are a testament to the excellence of FUNAAB’s academic community. The University takes pride in the recognition of Professors Sanni and Alegbeleye as they contribute to shaping Africa’s research landscape.
