The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole commending the victory of the Super Eagles at the just concluded African Cup of Nations when the executives of NUJ, Ogun State Council paid him a Courtesy Call.

The University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole has charged Nigerians to see the victory of the Super Eagles at the just concluded 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), held in South Africa as a challenge to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts at transforming our dear nation to a better one.

It would be recalled that a crucial goal from the home based Sunday Mba in the 38th minute of the first half was all the Super Eagles needed to bring back the elusive cup, which the nation last won 19 years ago.

The victory rekindles the spirit of oneness, nationalism and patriotism which has been fluctuating among Nigerians.

Making reference to the victory when the new Executives of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy call in his office, the Vice-Chancellor commended the “Big Boss”, Coach Stephen Keshi led victorious Super Eagles, describing the victory as well deserved.

Professor Oyewole, however, charged Nigerians to think beyond the euphoria and accolades that greeted the victory but to imbibe the Super Eagles spirit of oneness, team work, determination and rebirth that gave them the much needed continental trophy.

The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the lesson of the victory will be lost on Nigerians, if they failed to take advantage of it to team up with President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to re-build the nation for meaningful socio, economic and political development.

According to Professor Oyewole, “we thank God that our country came first in the African Cup of Nation (AFCON).  The feat is highly commendable”.

“More importantly, I think it is high time we use the lesson of oneness, teamwork, commitment and dedication that earned our Super Eagles victory, to team up with our President to rebuild our nation”, he charged.
