The Agbeloba Black Market, offering a 20% discount on all products, has officially opened on the campus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The inauguration was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that the market would be a monthly event where FUNAAB-produced goods would be exhibited and sold at discounted rates.

He declared that student vendors and local retailers from adjoining communities were welcome to participate, providing an opportunity for them to sell their products.

According to him, the initiative, a collaboration with the Student Union, was aimed to help students promote their brands and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

He added that the market would be held three to four times each semester.

He stated further that the Agbeloba Black Market would also serve as a platform for the local community and residents to engage in trade and support student entrepreneurs.

Speaking about the initiative, the Student Union President, Mr. Meschach Nwankwo highlighted that the market would improve the students’ quality of life and enhance the overall corporate image of FUNAAB.

Mr. Nwankwo, the initiator of the idea, stressed the importance of increasing the productivity of farm produce for the benefit of students and staff.

Meanwhile, the market functions like a subsidised Trade Fair, allowing various businesses to showcase and sell their products.

Notable attendees at the launch included the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Festus Adeosun, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Oluseyi Ojekunle, and numerous students.
