The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kolawole Salako, has admonished members of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, FUNAAB Detachment, to always operate within their guiding principles. The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by Mrs. Dorcas Odusami, a Chief Nursing officer from the University Health Services, gave the charge during the 15th Anniversary and Passing-out Parade of executive members of the Society, noting that the Red Cross Society has fundamental principles that could make them stand out.

The Vice-Chancellor charged members of the Society to remember the fundamental principles wherever they go. They are: Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. Prof. Salako seized the opportunity, to condemn the rampant suicide attitude among students, stating that students should always go to their counsellors, if there was anything bothering their minds instead of taking to untimely death as an option. Earlier, the outgoing Commandant, Crosser Zainab Okeleye, appreciated the staff advisers, the University Management, and Prof. Kolawole Salako-led administration for the total support enjoyed during her tenure. Zainab enumerated some of the laudable achievements and support enjoyed from the University Management during her tenure. These include organising a 2-day eye test for members of staff and students of the University; acquisition of four first aid boxes, 15 wooden first aid boxes for Colleges, two blankets, 10 pairs of uniform for both male and female, renovation of the detachment billboards, and base for camping, among others.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the state executive, Advance Adetayo Oshoniyi appealed to members of Society to always render a helping hand to their colleagues in case of casualty. He reinstated that the Red Cross Society had been assisting members of the public in many ways.  He enjoined students to join the Society for the betterment of the country. Dr. (Mrs.) Adebukola Omidiran was decorated as new Staff Adviser, Crosser Kehinde Imisioluwa emerged as the new Commandant of the FUNAAB Detachment while 12 new members were inducted; certificates of merit and awards were also given to outstanding members.
