The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Western Nigeria Security Network, otherwise known as the Amotekun Corps in educating its personnel on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and security management through the Institute of Communication and General Studies (ICGNS).

Receiving the Amotekun delegation today, September 18, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, assured that the University would make the programme affordable with a human face. He commended Amotekun for its invaluable role in safeguarding communities across the Southwest and noted that FUNAAB’s vast expanse of land posed unique security demands, making the partnership timely and strategic in sustaining a safe and peaceful learning environment.
The Director of ICGNS, Prof. Remi Aduradola, described the engagement as a milestone in linking academia with community-based security initiatives. She emphasised that beyond academic excellence, the University has a duty to safeguard the welfare of staff and students, adding that collaboration with Amotekun would strengthen that mission.

Similarly, the Programme Leader for Peace and Development Studies, Prof. Tope Olaifa, underscored the importance of conflict resolution and peacebuilding education. She explained that such skills are essential in promoting harmony on campus while equipping graduates to contribute meaningfully to peace and security in the wider society.

FUNAAB’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Peter Bolarinwa, also shed light on the institution’s security landscape. He maintained that Amotekun’s strong community network and knowledge of the local terrain would significantly boost the University’s security framework.
In his remarks, the Ogun State Amotekun Commandant, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (Rtd.), assured FUNAAB of the outfit’s total commitment to the partnership. He pledged that Amotekun would work hand-in-hand with the University’s security team to curb crime and forestall threats. While appealing for institutional support in terms of logistics and programme costs, he reiterated that security is a shared responsibility.

Brig. Gen. Adedigba further noted that Amotekun is not only a security outfit but also a community-driven initiative dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the future of young people. He affirmed that partnering with a leading institution like FUNAAB demonstrates their dedication to safeguarding the region’s future.
