Agricultural Media Resources & Extension Centre (AMREC), & CEADESE Empower Farmers on Poultry & Fish Production.

Over 150 farmers and youths in Iwoye Ketu and its environs have been empowered with skills in Poultry and Fish Farming by the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC), in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The Empowerment Training Programme tagged, “International Short Course and Capacity Building on Integrated Agricultural Production and Management” had about 30 percent of its participants drawn from the neighbouring Republic of Benin.

In his Opening Remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Lateef Sanni charged participants to take advantage of the Training to acquire more skills in poultry and fish farming with a view to improving their socio economic status, as well as contribute their quota to the agricultural development and food production in their respective countries.

Earlier, in her Welcome Address, the Director of AMREC, Professor Dorcas Adegbite appreciated the Alaye of Iwoye Ketu, His Royal Highness, Oba Joel Ademola, for his cooperation, hospitality and the provision of an enabling environment for the Training programme.

She charged the participants to pay attention to enable them benefit maximally from the training programme.

Corroborating her, the Director CEADESE, Professor Olukayode Akinyemi further admonished the participants to avail themselves of the great opportunities that can be benefitted from the Training, as well as to share the knowledge acquired with other farmers and stakeholders in their communities.

A Poultry housing unit stocked with one hundred-day old chicks, bags of poultry feed and other materials needed to raise the birds to table size, two fish tanks stocked with one hundred and fifty juveniles, bag of fish feed and other items were presented to the Community.
Responding, the Alaye of Iwoye Ketu, His Royal Highness, Oba Joel Ademola thanked AMREC, CEADESE and other stakeholders for choosing Iwoye Ketu community as the venue of the empowerment programme, which he said would improve the economic status, boost agricultural production and alleviate food security in their community and by extension the nation, at large.

The former Chairman, Imeko Afon Local Government, Honourable Durojaiye Asipa on behalf of participants also lauded the organisers and sponsors of the programme for the gesture, assuring them of the full cooperation and commitment of all the participants.

Topics covered during the Training include Overview of Poultry Production, Management of Broiler Chicken, Health Management in Broiler Chicken and Broiler Chicken Products and Marketing.

Others were Fish Farm Design and Construction, Fish Pond Preparation and Stocking, Fish Nutrition and Fish Farming Management, Fish Health Management and Fish Farm Record Keeping.

Certificates of Participation were awarded at the end of the empowerment programme.
