Succour is coming the way of rural farmers in the South-West part of the country, as the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) of the University, is set to distribute Soya-beans Threshing Machines to farmers.

This was disclosed by the Director of AMREC, Professor Kolawole Salako, during a demonstration exercise, held recently, on the usage of the machines by the farmers.

The project that will be solely financed by Nestle (Nig.) Plc, under the Nestle/AMREC Soya-beans Popularization Project, will facilitate easy and faster threshing of Soya-beans and thereby reduce hardship faced by farmers.

Noting that it will be the second time that Nestle and AMREC will embark on similar project, Professor Salako added that a machine will be given free of charge to each of the six South-West states, for the use of their farmers.

The Director said the machine will greatly assist the farmers in the effective and efficient cultivation and production of Soya-beans in the South-West and that AMREC will continue to monitor the usage of the machines in all the six states they will be deployed to.

At the demonstration where the farmers commended the University Management for coming up with the laudable initiative, Professor Salako, called for more private partnership in agriculture, saying, government and Nestle (Nig.) Plc, alone, cannot do it.
