Women farmers from the FUNAAB extension areas and the Community Based-Farming Scheme (COBFAS) communities have been trained by the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) in the skills of production, packaging of liquid soap, processing and utilization of soybean.
Welcoming the participants to the workshop tagged, Training of Trainers (TOT), the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole lauded the women for heeding the call of the University and commended them for the support, care and motherly role they had rendered to FUNAAB students in their communities.
Prof. Oyewole, who spoke to the women in Yoruba language, urged them to pay attention to their resource persons as they stand to gain a lot from the knowledge acquired, while certificates of participation will be issued to them.
He commended the efforts of AMREC, its members of staff and charged them to bring other laudable workshops on skills acquisition to the students of the University in collaboration with Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS).
The Project Coordinator, Prof. (Mrs.) Grace Sokoya, on behalf of the Director (AMREC), Prof. (Mrs.) Carolyn Afolami thanked the Vice-Chancellor as well as the resource persons for attending the programme.
She noted that the knowledge acquired from the training will enhance their economic status and enjoined them to ensure they transfer the skills acquired to others in their various communities.
The Director (Academic Planning), Prof. Adekojo Waheed, who stood in for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Toyin Arowolo said the knowledge acquired from liquid soap making could be transformed into a big business while that of soybean would enhance their nutritional education.
Highlights of the Workshop were the practical session on liquid soap production, packaging, processing and utilization of soybean.
