The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has partnered with the Yoruba Nurses of North America (YORNNA) to implement a Health Mission Outreach for families across Ogun State.
YORNNA, a non-profit organisation based in North America, is renowned for its annual health missions in Nigeria. For the 2025 exercise, the organisation carried out health outreach in four locations within Ogun State, namely Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu, and Ijebu-Imusin.
Under the leadership of its Founder and Convener, Prof. Modupe Aka-Bashorun Adebayo (USA), YORNNA engaged the Gender Issues and Youth Development Unit of AMREC (GIYD-AMREC) to mobilise rural families for the Abeokuta outreach, which was held at the Ake Palace on December 16, 2025.
The outreach featured comprehensive healthcare services, including free screening for blood pressure and blood glucose, visual-acuity testing with the provision of free eyeglasses, breast cancer awareness, basic mental health counselling, screening for malaria and other infectious diseases, as well as the distribution of welfare and palliative packages.
The event was graced by the presence of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, HRM Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, CFR, who attended with members of his entourage, including Egba High Chiefs.
FUNAAB’s collaborating team comprised staff of AMREC, alongside staff and students of the Department of Home Science and Management (HSM). The outreach also received support from student nurses of the Ogun State Colleges of Nursing, Abeokuta and Ilaro.
The Abeokuta outreach recorded remarkable success, with a total of 254 beneficiaries accessing various healthcare services, underscoring FUNAAB’s commitment to community development and public health promotion through strategic partnerships.
