ANN Honours Former DVC, Academic

Prof. Chryss Onwuka, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic who recently bowed out of the services of the University has been described as a peacemaker, a humble leader, and a diligent man with an amicable relationship with colleagues and students.

All these accolades were showered on Prof. Onwuka during a send-forth and appreciation gathering organised in his honour by the Department of Animal Nutrition (ANN), College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) to celebrate his contributions to humanity after his meritorious service to the University.

Expressing admiration for Prof. Onwuka’s exemplary qualities, Prof. Christian Ikeobi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic appreciated Prof. Onwuka for his invaluable contributions to the Department of Animal Nutrition and the University at large.

He appreciated Prof. Onwuka’s manner of encouraging his students and colleagues to write and get published.

Prof. Ikeobi added that Prof. Onwuka generously distributed books written by him for free in the Department to other aspiring academics for them to learn.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Head of Department (HoD), ANN, Prof. Richard Sobayo, shared his firsthand experience with Prof. Onwuka, describing him as a highly respectful and accommodating individual.

The HoD urged Prof. Onwuka to have the Department at heart, as his wealth of experience will always be needed when the need arises. Prof. Sobayo offered heartfelt prayers for his future endeavours.

The Dean, COLANIM, and Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD), Prof. Olusiji Sowande, in his Goodwill Message commended Prof. Onwuka for his selfless leadership role in FUNAAB. He also thanked him for providing him (Prof. Sowande) the first opportunity to get published in an International Journal during his Master’s Degree days.

Others who spoke collectively lauded Prof. Onwuka for his many accomplishments as a leader, teacher, mentor, and role model who would be sincerely missed by all.
