COURSE SYNOPSIS:

Behavioural profiles of different species of domestic livestock including sheep, goats, cattle, pigs and poultry. Aspects of behaviour in each species: Vision and other special senses, Social organization and dominance hierarchies, Sexual behaviour, Maternal – offspring behaviour, Abnormal behaviour. Learning theory: Imprinting, Non-associative learning, Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, Extinction, Positive reinforcement, Negative reinforcement, Punishment, Shaping. Animal training, welfare and safety.
