The Public Affairs Section, United States of America Consulate is calling for application from interested applicants for the Fulbright Foreign Student Programme for the 2021/2022 academic year. It is a research programme that is funded by the United States Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), New York City. The Director, Directorate of Research Innovations and Partnership (DRIP) of the University, Prof. Abdulrasaq Adebowale stated that the purpose of the programme was to strengthen African universities by giving grantees the platform to conduct doctoral research in the US. It also offers young and exceptionally-promising faculty members in selected Nigerian universities the opportunity to conduct doctoral research in US or research institutions for a maximum of nine (9) months. Prof. Adebowale added that the programme grant covers the grantees’ round-trip airfare to the US, settling-in allowance, monthly stipends, housing allowance, books-and-supplies allowance and computer allowance.
The grant also takes care of basic university health insurance as the primary insurance coverage and the Fulbright Accident and Sickness Programme for Exchanges (ASPE) health benefit as the secondary coverage. However, the grant does not cover travel of dependents hence; grantees would not be allowed to travel with the spouses and children. To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be citizens or nationals of Nigeria, or permanent residents holding valid passport issued by the government of Nigeria and must be doctoral or PhD students, who have completed significant amount of their doctoral programme in Nigerian universities and have the endorsement of their home institutions.
