Following the deaths of two Ebola Virus victims in Nigeria, and the confirmation of another nine cases within Lagos in the past two weeks, the Federal Government has declared a State of Emergency on this disease in the country. According to a release by the Deputy Director, Health Services, Dr. Abiodun Amusan, on behalf of the Director, Health Services, Dr. Olusola Talabi, as a University Community, there is need to take proactive measures to protect the lives of humans and animal population on campus by taking note of the following:

- There is need to increase level of hygiene in all areas of our daily activities by
developing regular hand washing culture anytime there are contacts with people, objects and animals.

- Protective gowns, gloves and face masks would now be worn by all staff of the University Health Services, Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Animal Farms, as preventive measures, to curtail infections and transmission of EVD.

- Staff and students with relations in Lagos area, where Ebola Virus Disease victims have been confirmed are advised to avoid non essential travel to Lagos and environs, as much as possible.

- All cases of abnormal bleeding, diarrhea and vomiting among staff and students should be promptly reported to the University Health Services.
