Be Dedicated to Duty – Student Affairs’ Dean

The newly-appointed Dean, Student Affairs in the University, Prof. Mobolaji Omemu, has implored members of staff of the Student Affairs Division to be dedicated and self-motivated in providing solutions to challenges that may come their way in the course of carrying out their duties. Speaking on the topic, “Strengthening Student Affairs Division in FUNAAB”, during her first official meeting with members of staff, she encouraged them to ignore distractions, stay focused, and imbibe the spirit of positivity.

She urged them not to restrict themselves to their traditional responsibility in the office, but strive to take care of the needs of students. Prof. Omemu, who is assuming office as the first female

Student Affairs’ Dean in FUNAAB, advised them to see themselves as ‘nurses’ by helping students mentally, to go through academic rigours, stating that staff of the Division should ensure that they work towards helping students up to a level where they can confide in them. She maintained that they should also exhibit the qualities of ‘midwives’ by helping students achieve their life’s aspirations, alluding that they are like ‘pain-relievers’, as many students are filled with pains and requiring succour.

The Dean revealed that she was the first female Deputy Dean of the Postgraduate School, as well as the first postgraduate student in FUNAAB and pleaded with the staff to ensure that they always provide quality service, adhere to professionalism, be consistent, passionate, and willing to work, stressing that the Division would depend heavily on them to record success. She added that staff members should show their loyalty to the leadership of the University, which she said was their first responsibility.

The Student Affairs Officer, Mr. Samson Adeniran, assured the Dean of their commitment, stating that all administrative officers had been brought up to do all manner of works and that they would give their maximum support. He pleaded with the Dean to carry everyone along in the interest of the system, and be willing to assist them when necessary. The newly-appointed Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Adeboye Fafiolu equally encouraged members of staff to do more by putting in their best, stating that he would love to see an office that works round the clock, strive towards ensuring that students were responsible and charged them to work with the Dean, describing her as a very versatile person. It would be recalled that the Dean and her Deputy assumed duty on January 2, 2020.
