L-R, UNAAB VC, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, Ag. Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Samuel Oluwalana, SUG President-Elect, Com. Bamgbade Abdulkareem and other Unionists at the parley

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, has charged the new Executive of the University’s Student Union to be cautious of their conduct while in office.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the need for the executive members to be mindful of their actions as leaders became imperative, since they would only be holding the positions in trust for over a 13,000 student’s population of the University.
Professor Balogun gave the charge at his maiden meeting with the Executive members of the Student Union who paid him a familiarization visit at the Council Chamber, led by the Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Oluwalana, last Tuesday.

Not mincing words, the Vice-Chancellor said he was by every standard in position to counsel the Executive members, not only as the Vice-Chancellor, but as a father, who has responsibility over them as his children and that he could only wish them well just as his biological children.
Borrowing from the experiences of some of the past Executive, Prof. Balogun said the members should be aware of the deceptive trappings of office, such that they do not suddenly grow wings and become unbridled.
The Vice-Chancellor admonished the student leaders to be wary of the law of redistributive justice (Law of Karma), affirming that “whatever you do today, two decades after, there may be a recourse to it, whether it is positive or negative, therefore you must be wary of your actions”.
He warned that the present Executive would be answerable for properties put in its care, particularly the Union bus, but however commended the members conduct so far, recalling that the election that brought them to office was transparent and peaceful, despite the fact that most of the Principal Officers and frontline officials were not around at the time.
In his speech, the new President of the Student Union, Comrade Bamgbade Abdulkareem, promised to avoid the pitfalls of some of his predecessors, with an assurance of cooperating with the Management and other organs of the University, in raising its bar of excellence.
