The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), with the aim of fostering collaboration with the Department of Agricultural Administration (AGAD), in the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD).
The meeting was held in the Conference Room A of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and featured a range of discussions centered on mutual benefits and collaborative efforts.
During the meeting, the Acting Deputy Registrar of CIPM, Mr. Gbenga Odetunde, expressed gratitude to the University Management for the warm reception.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor for the University’s leadership and recognition as the Best University of Agriculture in Africa in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Ranking.
Mr. Odetunde in his address emphasised the importance of effective people management, highlighting CIPM’s mission to empower individuals and organisations through exemplary personnel management practices.
He underscored integrity, service, and creativity as core values of CIPM and reiterated the Institute’s commitment to fostering individual and organisational development.
Mr. Odetunde elaborated on CIPM’s dual approach which were, enrolling members and continually enhancing their skills to meet contemporary expectations.
He pledged CIPM’s support to FUNAAB, aiming to establish a partnership that would yield significant benefits for both institutions and enhance the market value of FUNAAB students through collaborative initiatives.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, outlined FUNAAB’s tripartite mandate of Teaching, Research, and Community Engagement.
He stressed the University’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates who can contribute to societal development.
Prof. Kehinde expressed optimism that the partnership with CIPM would enhance the educational experience of FUNAAB students and strengthen the University’s industrial relations.
Speaking also at the meeting, the Head of Department, AGAD, Dr. Adefunke Ayinde, highlighted the Department’s focus as blending agricultural knowledge with administrative and human resource management skills.
She lauded CIPM’s standards of professionalism and expressed eagerness to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice through this collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a call to action for both institutions to focus on synergies that would lead to certification and eventual induction of FUNAAB graduates into CIPM.
The collaboration promised to bring innovative approaches to human resource management education, benefiting students and the broader community.
