The trio of Director of Community Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS), Prof. Sunday Adigbo, the Acting Director of Directorate of University Farm (DUFARM), Mr. Joseph Olobashola and the Coordinator of Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM), Mr. Olufunso Idowu commended the Prof. Kolawole Salako—led Management for boosting the service delivery of their respective arms of the University with modern working tools.
They gave the commendation moments after the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako handed over the equipment to them.
The Coordinator of DEM, Mr. Idowu expressed joy saying, “Yes I am happy, as you can see, you have seen the reason why I should be happy”.
Speaking on FUNAAB’s greenery and its vast land, Mr. Idowu who commended Management stated that for the past 8 years FUNAAB has consistently been among the 10 most beautiful campuses in Nigeria, with the University coming 5th at the last rating.
He promised that the Directorate will ensure that the position moves from that to first 3 before the end of the year.
In the same vein, the Director of COBFAS, Professor Adigbo, who also commended the Vice-Chancellor for the kind gesture recalled that before now, he had been thinking of how COBFAS will survive, because it had opened about 30 hectares of land in addition to the previous 15 hectares.
He said that with the equipment handed over, it would spur them to do more. While the students, “will be glad because gone are the days we used cutlasses but in this modern day if you want to compete globally, you need all these”.
On his part, the Acting Director, DUFARMS, Mr. Olobashola who also expressed his gratitude noted that “The Management is responding to our requirements and with all these, definitely we are moving towards the mechanization of our operations which will go a long way to project the image of the university as a specialized University in Agriculture”.
Projecting into the future, Mr. Olobashola said that in the next 5 years, FUNAAB will be the leading University of Agriculture in the country and the university farm will attract more visitors and also facilitate the training of FUNAAB students.
The tools/equipment handed over to the beneficiaries were, 20 Lawn Mowers, 20 Brush Cutters, and a Trailer for the Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM), while DUFARMS and COBFAS got 1 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) Van each, a Trailer, Planter, a Harvester and Tractors.
