COLBIOS Holds Maiden Get-Together

In a dazzling event held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the College Foyer, the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) marked a historic milestone with its first-ever Get-Together, New Year Party, and Award Presentation. The gathering was a momentous occasion to reflect on the achievements of the past year and set optimistic goals for the future. It was also to appreciate all staff members who had worked assiduously in a team to reach set goals.

In his Remarks at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde commended the collective efforts of the College’s staff in achieving their objectives, highlighting the exceptional accomplishments of the students in both their academic pursuits and service to the College.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the dedication and hard work of the staff, emphasising the significance of the celebration. He said that the celebration was noteworthy for having a productive year, congratulating the recipients of the awards.

The Dean, COLBIOS, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde in her Welcome Address, highlighted the crucial role played by all staff in supporting students on their academic journey.

She emphasised the College’s commitment to excellence, crediting the relentless efforts of everyone involved for maintaining high standards.

The event’s Special Guest of Honour, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, delivered an enlightening Lecture on “Impact of Leadership and the Essential Qualities that make a Good Leader.” She stressed that effective leadership involves inspiration rather than mere command-giving.

Prof. Akeredolu-Ale outlined key traits of a good leader, including a clear vision, effective communication, motivation, empathy, emotional intelligence, courage, integrity, adaptability, creativity, and commitment to team development.

She provided valuable tips for becoming a better leader, emphasising continuous improvement, high motivation, innovation, encouraging spirit, and skill/value enhancement.

In a distinct gesture of support, the Executive Director, Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Prof. Lateef Sanni, congratulated COLBIOS for organising the event and pledged a generous donation of 500,000 Naira for the next Get-Together.

Highpoint was the presentation of awards to outstanding students, along with the recognition of former Deans, Prof. David Agboola and Prof. Oluseyi Akinloye.

Dignitaries present included the former Vice-Chancellor of Glorious Vision University (GVU), Prof. Babatunde Idowu; former Ogun State Commissioner of Agriculture, Prof. Tope Popoola; Prof. Sam Wobo; Coordinator, Part-Time Degree Programme, Dr. Adeyinka Aladesida; Chairman, NAAT-FUNAAB, Comrade Joseph Olurinde, and top staff members of the College, including various staff members from within and outside the College.

The event concluded on a high note, celebrating achievements and fostering a sense of unity among COLBIOS staff members.
