As a means of preparing its Postgraduate students in the art of writing Grant Winning Proposals, the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) has held a Grant Writing and Application Workshop for Postgraduate students in the College with the theme “Writing a Winning Grant Proposal”.
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony, the Dean of the College, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde noted that the initiative was as a result of her interaction with the students of the College, pointing out the uniqueness of COLBIOS, especially in hosting student-oriented programmes.

The Dean said that the Workshop was hybrid, noting that many students participated online. According to her, she stressed the importance of students in the academic environment, saying, they were the reason why the University exists.
She added that training the students was one of the key duties of a Lecturer, having in mind the Tripodal Mandate of the University, which are Teaching, Research and Extension Services.
Prof. Kehinde, however, tasked her colleagues to mentor their postgraduate students properly, and guide them in writing their grant proposals.
The Dean appreciated all the Heads of Departments in the College who have in one way or another contributed to the success of they Workshop.
One of the Keynote Speakers at the Workshop, Dr. Oluwasegun Fawibe of the Department of Pure and Applied Botany in COLBIOS, delivered a lecture titled: Component of a Grant Winning Proposal.

On the other hand, Dr. John Oyedepo the Deputy Director, Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), addressed the participants on a paper, titled “Techniques and Best Practices for Writing.”
While Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo, Director-designate, Zoo Park, delivered a lecture, titled “Synopsis of Research Grants and Allocating Fund for Research.”
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the Certificate of Participation to the participants.
