The Department of Microbiology at the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on August 23, 2024, organised an Entrepreneurial Skills Exhibition for its final-year students. The event aimed to extend their learning beyond theoretical knowledge by encouraging the development of products that address community needs.
Coordinated by Dr. Adijat Atayese, the exhibition highlighted the students’ practical application of their coursework in Entrepreneurship Skills in Microbiology (MCB 422).
Among the products displayed were High-Quality Mentholated Spirit for laboratory use, Enhanced Hand Sanitisers, Hygienically Produced Locust Beans (Iru), Mozzarella Cheese made from micro-organisms for pizza, and Millet Wine (Oguro).
Dr. Atayese, speaking at the event, stressed the importance of translating academic knowledge into practical solutions. She expressed optimism that at least one of the 140 students would advance their project into a viable production line.
The highpoint of the exhibition was the display of the students’ products and it attracted participation from staff and students across the College.
