The College of Engineering (COLENG) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on September 18, 2024, honoured two distinguished retired staff members, Prof. Samson Awokola and Engr. (Dr.) Lawrence Olaoluwa, in a heartfelt farewell celebration, recognising their outstanding contributions to the College and University.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo, applauded the retirees for their dedicated service. He commended Prof. Awokola’s unwavering commitment and hard work, while also praising Engr. (Dr.) Olaoluwa’s professionalism and amiable nature throughout their careers at FUNAAB.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, encouraged current staff members to follow in the retirees’ footsteps, emphasising that their contributions were worthy of emulation.
The Dean, COLENG, Prof. Olawale Dairo, represented by the Deputy Dean, Prof. Olaide Adetunji, expressed gratitude to the University Management for their support, acknowledging the retirees’ hard work, warmth, and jovial character during their time at FUNAAB.
Engr. Funmilayo Alayaki, the Ag. Head of the Civil Engineering Department, celebrated the retirees for their exemplary service, describing them as truly deserving of the honour bestowed upon them.
The event also featured tributes from notable figures such as Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, Coordinator, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in FUNAAB, and Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, Ag. Director, Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS).
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of gifts, marking a fitting tribute to the retirees’ legacy of dedication and service to FUNAAB.
