COLENG Organises Get-Together with a Special Sensitisation on SDGs

The College of Engineering (COLENG), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has successfully held its End-of-the-Year Get-Together with a special sensitisation on SDGs, themed “Linking COLENG-FUNAAB Inaugural Lectures to the United Nations SDGs.

Held on December 22, 2024, at the COLENG Conference Room, the programme was organised by the leadership of the College to appreciate members of staff for their support throughout the year and to sensitise them on the intentional drive the University was making on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In his Welcome Address, the Dean, COLENG, Prof. Olawale Dairo, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for the unwavering support, noting a series of prompt approvals of all the requests from the College. He commended the faculty and staff of the College for their cooperation, hard work and peaceful coexistence. He congratulated them on the successful hosting of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Team across all the Departments of the College hoping that this act would lead to good outing results in 2025.

A special sensitisation was made by FUNAAB’s SDGs Resource Person, Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, who is also a former Vice-Chancellor of Landmark University, Omu-Aran. Prof. Olayanju underscored the importance of linking the University’s Inaugural Lectures that would come from COLENG to the United Nations SDGs.

“The College of Engineering has presented ten Inaugural Lectures to date, and each of them has directly or indirectly addressed at least one of the global goals. However, there is a need for us to be intentional about the drive by owning, embracing and running with the SDGs.”

Goodwill Messages were given by some members of staff, including Prof. Salami Ismaila, a former Dean of the College; Prof. Pius Dada, Chairman TIMTEC; Prof. Funmilayo Alayaki HOD, CVE; Prof. Ibiyemi Kuye, former HOD MCE; Prof. Adedayo Badejo; former HOD CVE, Dr. Olatunde Adekunle, the Immediate Past HOD, MCE and Mr. Babatunde Shehu, the new College Officer. They highlighted the critical role of COLENG in achieving the SDGs and encouraged the College Team to inculcate the objectives and targets of the goals to sustain their excellence.

The highpoint of the event was the adoption of 679 as the SDGs Code for the college, based on their special contributions to the provision of “Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6); Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7) as well as Industry, Innovations and Infrastructure (SDG9)”.

Giving the Vote of Thanks, the Deputy Dean of the College, Professor Olajide Adetunji, thanked God for his unconditional love for members and the accomplishments made in the year.
