The Department of Civil Engineering came on board during the phase two-developmental stage of the University. It took off formally during the 2001/2002 session, with the admission of 12 students into the 100 level basic science course.

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

 

The philosophy and objectives of the Department of Civil Engineering is to produce skilled manpower who understand the fundamentals and principles of the discipline and who can generate appropriate technologies for the nation’s developmental programme in all the areas related to the discipline and agricultural development.

 

The objectives of the Department are:

 

(i) To train students that has competence in the development of ideas and concepts for the solution of practical civil engineering and agricultural problems using divergent thinking and induction.

 

(ii) To train students that will use appropriate technology to modernize civil engineering and agricultural production, processing, storage, preservation and distribution.

 

(iii) To train students that will exercise initiative, judgment and creative ability in the use of engineering principles for the solution of civil engineering and agricultural problems.

 

(iv) To expose students to the practical aspects of their training so as to prepare them for actual working conditions on graduation through carefully designed and supervised industrial training and site visits.
