The College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on April 5, 2025, rolled out the drums to celebrate its 10th Anniversary, marking a decade of academic excellence, innovation, and national relevance.
With the theme, “Celebrating a Decade of Excellence,” the milestone event highlighted the College’s transformational journey and its aspirations for the future, aligning with global developmental goals.
Welcoming guests to the grand occasion, the Dean of COLPHYS, Prof. Adio Akinwale, recounted the College’s inspiring trajectory since its inception. He noted the remarkable growth in the student population from 2,000 to over 5,000, the production of 32 First-Class graduates, and the College’s sterling performance in sports and academic pursuits. He also unveiled new research initiatives while appreciating the unwavering support of both past and present Vice-Chancellors in advancing the College’s vision for national development.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju—FUNAAB’s Anchor Person on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a former Vice-Chancellor of Landmark University, commended the College’s leadership and reaffirmed the University’s pride in COLPHYS’ accomplishments. He lauded the College’s contributions to the actualisation of the United Nations SDGs (1–17) and encouraged continued peace and collaboration within the College community.
In a Goodwill Message, Hon. Prince Dennis Ogunnaike, Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Technology Innovation, Strategy and Youth Development, engaged participants with practical insights on national development. He introduced the SCAMPER model—Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Reverse—as a tool for innovation and creativity. He also discussed the red ocean and blue ocean strategies as pathways for gaining competitive advantage in today’s dynamic world.
Youth empowerment took centre stage in the remarks of Mr Olawole Ayorinde, a proud alumnus of the College, who urged final-year students to embrace self-reflection and intentionality in preparing for life after graduation. Citing Wilson’s Law, he underscored the importance of continuous knowledge acquisition and a growth mindset, reminding students that “in ten years, money will continue,” but those who build capacity will thrive.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to distinguished lecturers, alumni, and students in recognition of their valuable contributions to the growth of the College and the success of the anniversary celebration.
The event rounded off with a heartfelt vote of thanks by the President of the College of Physical Sciences Students’ Association (COLPHYSSA), Mr. Oluwadamilare Adeosun, supported by other members of Team Proactive, who appreciated all stakeholders for making the celebration a memorable one.
As COLPHYS marks a decade of excellence, the celebration reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to academic leadership, research innovation, and youth empowerment, setting the tone for even greater achievements in the years to come.
