COLPHYS Holds Conference on Developmental Science & Tech.

The College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently held its International Conference on Developmental Science and Technology.

The Conference which was the maiden edition is focused on “Advancing Scientific Frontlines for Sustainable Development”.

Declaring the conference open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako represented by the Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Prof. Mufutau Atayese called for scientific breakthrough and food security through articulated effort by all scientists and scholars in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor welcomed all participants to the conference and charged new comers to FUNAAB to have a feel of the greenery of the University Campus.

Also, the Dean (COLPHYS), Prof. Adio Akinwale in his welcome address noted that the conference is aimed at achieving local innovations through scientists in the College. He used the opportunity to appreciate Management for their continued support and pleaded for more support, especially in improving the laboratories in the College.

Earlier, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman, Prof. Victor Makinde while welcoming participants to the Conference, also emphasized that the conference was put together with the hindsight of meeting the goals and needs of the society. He further advised that the future generation should always be considered while ensuring an all round Sustainable Development of Nigeria.

Papers were presented by scholars of repute such as Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, a Professor of Geography in the University of Ibadan (UI), Ibadan and also a former Vice-Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho.

Prof. Gbadegesin spoke on Sustainability Science and the Issue of Sustainable Development in Nigeria, while the Lead Speaker was, Prof. Samuel Okoya, a Professor of Mathematics from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife presented a paper on “Predictions Based on Mathematical Models for National Development”.
