The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to community development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by transforming the learning environment at Aaya Community Primary School, located behind Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA), through the renovation of dilapidated classrooms and the donation of vital teaching materials.

The intervention, spearheaded by the University’s Technical Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility, has reaffirmed FUNAAB’s position as a people-centred institution with a vision that extends far beyond its campus walls.

Speaking at the official handover of the newly renovated classrooms, today, September 26, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, underscored the University’s belief in quality foundational education as the bedrock of national development. “Primary education is the foundation. Without the efforts of teachers at this level, the university cannot admit quality students. Everyone who has become a professor or professional today passed through a primary school,” he said.

Prof. Kehinde explained that the project was in direct response to a plea from the school, describing it not just as an infrastructural facelift, but as a deliberate effort to support teachers in nurturing future leaders. He also made a personal donation of a substantial amount to further equip the school with instructional resources.

Appreciating the University, the Head Teacher, Mrs. Dorcas Gbenjo, who spoke with visible emotion, described the gesture as “timely and life-saving,” revealing that pupils in Primary 4–6 had been learning under unsafe conditions until FUNAAB’s swift intervention. Despite the short notice before resumption, she commended the University for completing the renovation in record time.

The pupils themselves expressed gratitude through their Head Boy, Master Semilogo Babalola, while community representatives, including Mr. Solomon Omonitan and Mrs. Augusta Edun, lauded FUNAAB’s Management for extending the frontiers of education to the grassroots.

Through this intervention, FUNAAB has once again shown that it is a citadel of higher learning and a beacon of hope, driving social impact and educational transformation at the community level.
