Out-going Corps members pledging their loyalty to their fatherland, while singing the national anthem

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been charged to bring their experiences during the national service to bear on their future private and official conducts, for the advancement of their immediate environment and the nation at large.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, UNAAB, Prpfessor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun gave the charge while sending forth the 2009/2010 Batch C corp members that served in the institution.

Represented by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, Professor Balogun declared that the task of nation building was a collective responsibility of every Nigerian, which should not be deferred as an exclusive concern of the nation’s leadership.

He admonished the corps members to realise the enormity of the challenges ahead, stressing that they would be required to deplore all the experiences they garnered in the course of their national service into building a better society for the present and upcoming generations.

Professor Balogun warned that except the experiences were genuinely deployed and fully utilised, all the human and capital resources that were invested in their service would not only be wasted, but also counter-productive.

He commended the outgoing corps members for serving the University with diligence and forthrightness, stressing that the University
would not on its part relent in sustaining the enabling environment for the youth corps members on national service.

Also speaking, the Assistant Director of NYSC in charge of Common Service, Mrs. Tayo Samuel who represented the State Director, thanked the University Management for its regular support to corps members and the NYSC at large.

She said NYSC had deliberately been posting committed and brilliant corps members to the University in order to increase value-addition on both sides.

Mrs. Samuel, however urged the Management of the University to increase the monetary allowance for corps members and also provide logistic supports, including accommodation and vehicle to pick them from the Orientation Camp and to take them back, at the end of the service.
