In continuation of the distribution of Made in FUNAAB Food items and protection kits to some staff and public servants on essential services during the on-going COVID-19 lockdown in Ogun State, Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako-led Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has extended the distribution of the FUNAAB Food items to vulnerable indigenes of Egbaland through the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo. The donation was made in his palace, where multitudes of vulnerable people affected by the lockdown assemble daily to get palliatives from well-meaning sons and Daughters of Egbaland through the Alake.
Receiving the Vice- Chancellor and his team, Oba Gbadebo appreciated FUNAAB for reaching out to the people with the food items. He equally appreciated FUNAAB’s effort under the leadership of Prof. Salako in sustaining the town and gown relationship.
According to the Alake, “The recent COVID-19 affects us all”. He charged everyone to take precautionary instructions issued by health workers serious, praying that the Novel Coronavirus leaves Nigeria soon.
In appreciation, Oba Gbadebo prayed that FUNAAB will soar higher for supporting Egbaland, especially at this critical moment of the pandemic.
Earlier on the Vice-Chancellor led his team to visit members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter, at their Iwe-Iroyin rendezvous, where he equally presented some of the palliatives to the journalists.
Welcoming the Vice-Chancellor and members of his team, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, NUJ, Ogun State, Mrs. Omolola Adeyinka thanked Prof. Salako and the FUNAAB team for presenting relief items to journalists.
She described journalists as one of most vulnerable people in the society, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before proceeding to town, the Vice-Chancellor visited the University Health Services with some FUNAAB food items, which, he handed over to the Director, Dr. Abiodun Amusan.
Speaking at each spot, Prof. Salako described the items as FUNAAB’s widow’s mite presented to staff of Health Centre because they are dear to his heart and in appreiation for their work at this critical period of COVID-19
He said that FUNAAB did not come to present the items because the university needed to show off, but because it has the responsibility to do that which is necessary in reaching out to the vulnerable at this trying moment.
Items distributed included bags of FUNAAB Garri, Fufu, cartons of FUNAAB palm wine, palm oil, crates of Eggs, FUNAAB customised nose guards and hand gloves, among other items donated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salako on behalf of his family.
