The Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), held its maiden interview session for Farm Officers today, Monday, May 27, 2024, at the CSLU Conference Room.
The initiative was a collaboration between CSLU and Dewhales Farms, a rapidly growing crop and animal farming enterprise operating in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area (Owode Egba) and Ijebu East Local Government Area (Ogbere) in Ogun State.
CSLU’s mission was to forge strong connections and partnerships with industries and organisations, providing students and graduates with opportunities for job placements, internships, volunteer positions, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) roles.
Additionally, CSLU facilitates connections with professional bodies, coordinates collaborations and memoranda of understanding with industry partners, and organises job fairs, career conferences, and employment fora.
They also work with industries to establish Programme Advisory Committees for reviewing academic programmes and ensure that all partnerships are mutually beneficial and sustainable.
As a result of this collaboration, Dewhales Farms would recruit Farm Managers and Farm Supervisors from among the applicants, bolstering their current workforce.
The establishment of CSLU at FUNAAB was a strategic response to address the high unemployment rate among graduates, and the Unit operates under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
The interview panel included Dr. Matthew Oose, Chairman of the Committee of Interviewers and Head of CSLU; Prof. Iyabode Kehinde, Dean of the College of Biosciences; Prof. Thomas Fabunmi, Head of the Department of Plant Physiology and Crop Production (PPCP); Mr. Olurotimi Fasunwon, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU-FUNAAB), and Mr. Ayo-Adekunle Segun, Managing Director of Dewhales Farms, along with a host of applicants.
