DEM Partners Stakeholders on Sanitation

The Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM) has partnered critical stakeholders around the Promise Adewusi Shopping Complex and University Motor Parks on the need to ensure efficient, effective and safe sanitation.

Speaking at the parley comprising shop owners, transporters and SSANU Exco members, the Coordinator, Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM) Mr. Olufunsho Idowu said the University environment is an epitome of excellence for studies, research and other academic activities, hence, it is expected to be neat, tidy and clean always.

He described FUNAAB’s clean and serene environment as enviable heritage which cannot be toyed with but must be maintained and sustained.

The DEM Coordinator frowned at the littering of the environment with nylon, sachet of pure water, papers, pet plastic bottles and cans of assorted drinks adding that other areas which stakeholders must address include indiscriminate toileting (urination and defecating) within the zone; usage of waste bins by vendors and shop owners; as well as proper usage and maintenance of SSANU Comfort Station.

Responding, one of the shop owners, Mrs. Idowu appreciated the initiative to convey the stakeholders meeting. Suggesting construction of another comfort station at the bus stop by the University and discourage hawking within the University premises, in order to ensure a cleaner and safe environment.

On his part, Alhaji Abdulquadri, a transporter charged the University and DEM to enforce the policy of keeping FUNAAB clean, adding that the transporters are ready to abide by the University’s rules and regulations on sanitation.

Also speaking, Mr. Ademola Sobote, Chairman, Board of Trustees, SSANU Investment Scheme, said the Association supports the move to discourage hawking in the University premises, highlighting various steps that has taken to ensure the environment is clean.

At the end of the parley, the stakeholder agreed to be environmental friendly by maintaining cleanliness and healthiness. It was also resolved that the area would be monitored by DEM and security men to enforce compliance. DEM assures of a University Comfort Station in the area in addition to 4 big drums for waste disposal.
