The Directorate of Technologists and Technical Staff (DITTECS), today, September 11, 2025, reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and institutional growth by hosting a One-Day Capacity-Building Workshop on “Strategic Leadership, Laboratory Administration, Management and Ethics.”

The workshop brought together Technologists who explored practical tools for effective leadership and ethical management in laboratory environments.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, commended participants and facilitators for their active engagement. He emphasised the University’s drive to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence, stressing the importance of shared responsibility in achieving FUNAAB’s strategic goals.
Earlier in her Welcome Address, the Director of DITTECS, Dr. Wunmi Abimbola-Okunneye, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support. She described the workshop as timely and relevant, noting that the strength of any laboratory lies not only in technical expertise but also in ethical leadership and quality management.

Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Jackson Osuh of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, highlighted the role of strategic leadership in aligning laboratories with institutional, national, and global objectives. He underscored the need for resource mobilisation, grant acquisition, and collaborative partnerships, stressing that “strategic leadership is the engine that drives sustainability and global competitiveness.”

The lead speaker, Prof. Kola Adebayo, who is also a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, spoke on collaborative and distributed leadership, urging participants to embrace innovation, empowerment, and teamwork. He further encouraged institutions to explore entrepreneurship, consulting, agricultural ventures, and research grants while leveraging digital tools for communication and knowledge sharing.

Participants described the training as highly impactful, noting that the lessons learned would enhance their professional development and workplace effectiveness.
The workshop was widely acknowledged as a resounding success, equipping laboratory professionals with the vision, ethics, and leadership skills required to advance FUNAAB’s commitment to institutional excellence.
