In case you are depressed, please don’t consider suicide as the way out, contact us immediately at the Counselling Unit of the University and you will be relieved and restored.
This is the admonition of the Principal Assistant Registrar, Guidance and Counselling Unit of the University, Dr. (Mrs.) Modesta Ofodile to all FUNAAB Students at the Orientation Programme of new intakes of Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE).
Dr Ofodile who was represented by Mrs. Bolanle Olaleye gave tips on how students could excel and avoid falling into depression that could lead to committing suicide, stressing that Counsellors are always available in the University Counselling Unit to give necessary advice and counselling whenever consulted.
The University’s Counselor also gave the institution’s code of conduct to the students, which according to her contains the rules and regulations of the University.
In his presentation, the Director, University Health Centre, Dr. Abiodun Amusan represented by Dr. Dayo Oduwole explained the basic health care system available at the University Health Centre to the students, urging them to register at the Health Centre in order to benefit from the services.
He advised the students to visit the Health Centre as soon as they observe any health challenges, stressing that the University Health Centre is open to all students, irrespective of their age.
Giving a brief history of CEADESE, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Centre, Dr. Israel Osunsina stated that CEADESE started full operations on the 16th of February, 2014 after a competitive bid of excellence in 2013.
He enumerated the achievements of the Centre, to include admitting 267 students since inception with about 104 Master of Science (M.Sc) and 125 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students respectively, adding “the Centre has had five Academic sessions with the first set of students admitted in 2014”.
He charged the students to complete their registration process stressing that the Centre’s principal partners are World Bank, National Universities Commission and Association of African Universities who monitors the students’ activities closely.
Also speaking, the Dean of Post Graduate School, Professor Wilfred Alegbeleye described the students as a peculiar group because the Centre is the only one in the University that attracts foreigners across the globe.
He, however, acknowledged this as a great opportunity as it has been able to advertise the university beyond the shores of the country.
The Director, CEADESE, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi earlier in his Welcome Address enjoined the students to abide by the rules and regulations governing the University while assuring them of a very pleasant experience throughout their stay.
Programme leaders in the various programmes offered by CEADESE also gave brief introductions on their courses.
