The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has appointed Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide as the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR).
The appointment, effective from December 1, 2023, was communicated to him in a letter signed by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu.
The letter emphasised Mr. Olajide’s proven leadership capabilities and highlighted his potential to make positive contributions to the overall development of the University.
Mr. Olajide brings to this role a wealth of experience spanning more than a decade in the fields of Public Relations, Media, and Strategic Communications.
He joined the services of the University in 2011 as an Information Officer II, and through his dedication and commitment, rose to the position of Assistant Director, Media in the Directorate.
A product of Government College, Ibadan (GCI), he studied Mass Communication at The Polytechnic Ibadan, attaining a Higher National Diploma (HND) in 2005, and proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, earning B.A in Mass Communication in 2007 and M.Sc. in the same field in 2019.
His impressive career trajectory included a recent secondment as the Personal Assistant to the Sixth Substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako, FSSSN, FASN where he served in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor from 2018 to 2023.
Mr. Olajide’s professional affiliations include being an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). He has served as the General Secretary of the Institute’s Ogun State Chapter and has actively participated in numerous NIPR conferences, showcasing his commitment to professional development.
Fluent in French, Mr. Olajide has received several awards, including the Award of Recognition by the Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association (GCIOBA), 1991 January Set, and a Merit Award by the FUNAAB Safety Club.
Currently, Mr. Olajide serves as a member of the Ranking Advisory Committee in the University and has previously contributed to the 2023 Ogun NIPR Colloquium Planning Committee that was held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
His passion lies in harnessing the potential of New Media as a powerful public relations tool. He recognises its capacity to rapidly disseminate accurate and firsthand information, serving to positively enhance the image of individuals, organisations, places, and businesses, among other aspects.
His skill set includes, but not limited to, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Social Media usage, Creative Writing, Compere, Protocol, and Passages, as well as Brand Management.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Olajide enjoys leisure activities such as travelling, playing chess, swimming, and reading biographies of great world leaders.
Mr. Olajide took over the leadership of the Directorate from Mr. Kola Adepoju who has proceeded on Sabbatical Leave.
