The University Authority has been called upon to consider packaging a 10-year Alumni Relations and Strategic Plan (2013-2023) as a step towards a “new and exciting era” of alumni relations.
The above recommendation was made by a FUNAAB Alumnus and the Guest Lecturer of the 15th Annual Lecture of FUNAAB Alumni Association, Dr. Jonathan J. Atungwu.
In the lecture titled “Strategizing the Alumni for Sustainable University Development, “Dr. Atungwu stressed the need for a dedicated Alumni engagement Website to enhance reunions of its graduates.
Dr. Atungwu encouraged the Alumni body to be seen as a partner that will engage the University in long-lasting discourse on the best ways to build on the achievements of the last 25 years, as the University celebrates its Silver Jubilee.
Dr. Atungwu, who is the Director of the University Community-Based Farming scheme (COBFAS) also, canvassed for a new era of Alumni relations which will be fully engaged in the developmental processes of the University, by packaging a 10-year Alumni Relations and Strategic Plan (2013-2023) as a step towards a “new exciting era” of Alumni relations.
Dr. Atungwu predicted that the University has a bright future, huge, great and potentials.
He however described the Alumni as a major stakeholder that have the potential to contribute to sustainable development of the University through its members’ labour, time and resources.
Highlighting, the achievements of the Alumni towards the development of the University, he stated that some Alumnus staffed in the University have been able to attract top grants for Research and Development to the University.
The speaker debunked the misconception that only the rich alumni can contribute to its activities, as he made it known that membership is open to all holders of FUNAAB degrees and related programmes.
Chronicling the history of the Alumni Association, Dr. Atungwu recounted that the Association was founded in January 1996 for the purpose of connecting with Alumni of FUNAAB locally and internationally so as to enable them play significant roles in the development of the University.
Dr. Atungwu also commended the past and present University Management for their enviable progresses, achievements, and positive developmental efforts made in the last 25 years of its existence.
On further development of the University, Dr. Atungwu cautioned that members should guide against anything that would unnecessarily slow down the increasing tempo of growth and development, lower academic standards and things that may threaten financial prudency.
In appreciation, he noted that the Alumni is grateful to the University for granting its National President an automatic representative of the Convocation on the University Governing Council.
