Dr. Deola-Tayo Lordbanjou, a distinguished alumnus and the Director of the Federal Department of Agricultural Extension Service, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Abuja, would on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, deliver the 12th Commencement Lecture of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The Lecture, titled “Agriculture as a Pathway to Sustainable Development, Food Security, and Poverty Alleviation in Nigeria: Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future,” is one of the major highlights of the 2024/2025 Academic Session Matriculation Ceremony, and it would take place at the Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building, starting at 9 a.m.
Dr. Lordbanjou, a prominent figure in agricultural development, is expected to share his wealth of experience with the University Community, particularly with the newly admitted students, drawing from his illustrious career and impactful contributions to agricultural extension services nationwide.
In recent times, Dr. Lordbanjou has demonstrated his commitment to the development of his alma mater. Notably, he donated a STIHL MH 710 Petrol Tiller and a motorcycle to the University, aimed at enhancing agricultural mechanisation and revitalising practical learning experiences for students.
Additionally, Dr. Lordbanjou facilitated the training of 24 Farm Practical Year (FPY) students at Ijebu-Ode, providing each participant with 25 Day-Old-Chicks (DOCs), three bags of poultry feed, and essential Poultry Zymes supplements. His efforts have significantly bolstered the practical training component of the students’ education, equipping them with resources and skills for hands-on agricultural practice.
Beyond these generous donations, Dr. Lordbanjou has also extended his support to the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development (AERD), where he completed his Ph.D. He recently undertook a renovation project to give the Department a much-needed facelift, further demonstrating his dedication to fostering an improved learning environment at FUNAAB.
