Adebowale Oluwawemimo completed her DVM at the University of Ibadan in 1998 and continued her postgraduate studies at the same University, where she obtained a MVPH degree from the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship for doctoral training at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London and completed her PhD in 2015.
She was part of a research team that worked on the characterization of UK open farms in relation to practices (such as farm structures and layout, animal husbandry and management practices, and provision of hygiene facilities for visitors) associated with the risk of visitors being exposed to Escherichia coli O157and other zoonotic pathogens. The study investigated the prevalence and farm-level risk factors for VTECO157, and other zoonotic pathogens such as Salmonella and Campylobacter on the UK open farms, and commercial farms participating in the annual national scheme programme tagged “open farm Sunday event”- A DEFRA funded project. Furthermore, she has worked on projects with special interest in the development of novel diagnostic technologies for bacteria at molecular level using antisense strategies, and a novel delivery agent (PHMB) to enhance intracellular ODN macromolecule delivery and free fixation fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).Currently, interested in the application of molecular biology and epidemiology research techniques to study selected bacterial and viral zoonoses of public health interests in Nigeria.
