In a renewed effort to foster internal synergy and promote sustainable agricultural development, the Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has initiated a strategic collaboration with the College of Engineering (COLENG).
The partnership, sealed during a meeting held at the College of Engineering, seeks to leverage engineering innovation and mechanisation to enhance productivity, efficiency, and practical problem-solving within the University’s farming operations.
Welcoming the DUFARMS team, the Dean, College of Engineering, Prof. Adedayo Badejo, expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a proactive step towards institutional growth. He reaffirmed COLENG’s readiness to provide technical expertise and innovation-driven support, emphasising the need for clear, actionable plans to ensure the success of the collaboration.
In his remarks, the Ag. Director, DUFARMS, Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, underscored the importance of internal collaboration, stressing that the University’s progress depends largely on collective efforts across units. He highlighted DUFARMS’ steady expansion in production and called for engineering interventions to improve farm operations, processing systems, and livestock housing.
Also present at the meeting was FUNAAB’s Resource Person on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, who commended the partnership as timely and strategic. He noted that DUFARMS’ initiatives were in line with global goals on food security and partnerships, as well as the University’s mission to integrate research, teaching, and practical engagement to address real-life challenges.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolution to establish a joint working group that would develop innovative technologies for farm mechanisation, efficient processing, and student-led projects.
