As part of his ongoing tour of Departments, Directorates, Centres, and Units under his supervision, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo, visited the FUNAAB Zoo Park, where he commissioned the newly constructed mini Gazebo.
During the visit, Prof. Adebayo commended the Zoo Park’s growing online presence, its well-maintained environment, and the remarkable achievements recorded under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo. He highlighted the significant improvements, including an over 80% increase in Internally Generated Revenue and enhanced animal welfare.
Reaffirming the University Management’s commitment to the Zoo Park, the DVC, Development, commended the staff’s dedication and the visible transformation of the facility, particularly in public awareness and general upkeep.
In his remarks, Prof. Sam-Wobo acknowledged the DVC, Development’s long-standing support for the Zoo Park as a Top Management official. He attributed the Park’s progress to the hard work and dedication of his team, expressing appreciation for their contributions over the past year.
The Director highlighted some of the Zoo Park’s pressing challenges, including the need for a stable electricity supply, iconic animal species such as zebras, giraffes, and elephants, the installation of CCTV cameras for security and real-time monitoring, and a motorised mower to manage the growing vegetation.
Highpoint of the visit was a tour of the proposed site for an incoming elephant, followed by the commissioning of the Gazebo—personally constructed by Prof. Sam-Wobo as a legacy project. He encouraged the DVC, Development to replicate similar initiatives. The visit concluded with the presentation of gifts and memorabilia to mark the occasion.
