Prof. Daisy Eruvbetine addressing delegates at the Seminar on International Opportunities for Women
Women working in Nigerian Universities have been charged to take advantage of international funding opportunities available, to develop professionally.
The Guest Speaker, Professor (Mrs.) Daisy Eruvbetine, gave this charge at the Seminar on International Opportunities for Women, organized by the Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW), Abeokuta Chapter.
Professor (Mrs.) Eruvbetine who pointed out that women have proven to be good Managers and Administrators of their homes and families noted that it has become imperative for them to showcase the God-given potentials in their careers, for their personal growth and the development of their immediate communities.
Speaking on career development opportunities available for NAUW members, Professor Eruvbetine disclosed that several international grant awarding agencies provide fundings for research study or other activities such as educational programmes, service programmes, demonstration or research projects.
According to her, some of their financial support covers Postgraduate, Masters, Ph.D. or training fellowship as well as research and capacity building, Conference travel or collaborative projects.
Highlighting key points to consider when looking for donor, she advised the participants to identify funder focus, funding patterns, proposal requirement as well as proposal deadlines.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo commended the ingenuity of the Association for organizing the Seminar which he noted would add value to members and the University.
He admonished the women to continue to improve themselves by seeking knowledge while stressing that knowledge acquisition has no limit.
Professor Balogun who also lauded the Association for its good works with the crèche, expressed joy at the proactiveness of the in-coming executive of the association whom he noted have not yet taken over the baton of leadership but has been relentless in its efforts.
The in-coming President of NAUW, Dr. Mrs. Comfort Onifade, in a brief history of the association said the Association is affiliated with the International Federation of University Women with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with committment to the Girl Child education.
