The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Mrs Noimot Salako Oyedele has described Engineers as the best set of people on earth.
Engr. Oyedele, who was represented by the Commissioner for Forestry, Ogun State, Engr. Hon. Olatunji Akinosi made this disclosure at the University’s College of Engineering (COLENG) in association with the Nigerian Society of Engineering (NSE) 7th Induction Ceremony.
According to the Deputy Governor “the engineering profession is an enviable career due to its problem solving nature and you should not think less of yourselves, but rather make use of all you have been taught in the classroom to make the world a better place by finding solutions to the numerous problems facing the world today”.
Engineer Salako Oyedele charged the young graduates to uphold integrity, avoid cutting corners and not place so much importance on money because there are other more important things in life.
She congratulated the students, their parents, lecturers in the Engineering Department and the University management for the success recorded so far in the Institution.
In her Address, the Guest Speaker and Deputy President NSE, Engr. Margaret Oguntala who was represented by the Director, School of Engineering, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr. Olanrewaju Apampa commended the university and the College of Engineering in particular for producing highly skilled and quality graduates who are employable and who will be key stakeholders in impacting the world positively.
According to Engr. Oguntala, FUNAAB graduates cannot be classified among unemployable youths in the country because the years they have spent in school have prepared them to face all manners of challenges and they must be prepared to bring their training to bear.
She noted that as Engineers, they are dynamic and relevant in every sector of the world, adding that “The world is social, so for your classroom knowledge to be relevant it has to be applied in the social environment and in the society because there lays the opportunities.”
Engr. Oguntala further charged the fresh graduates to “get relevant work experience, you are a gem stone yet unpolished, it is the work experience that will be the polishing. Don’t let money be your driving force but rather the experience will bring the money. Be active, be visible, network, let people know your area of interest, surround yourself with people with positive mind set and take care of your health”.
Delivering the Keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Kolawole Salako who was represented by the Chairman, Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD) and Dean Post graduate School, Prof. Wilfred Alagbeleye advised the graduates on some dos and don’ts needed to equip themselves for the journey ahead.
According to him, the inductees must be brave and positive, believing in themselves, resilient and determined to succeed. He also urge them to be prepared to get out of their comfort zone, meet people, gather experience and learn new things.
In the same vein, Prof. Salako admonished them not to be afraid to fail or make mistakes and never to stop learning.
Earlier in his Welcome address, the Dean COLENG, Prof. Olawale Dairo charged the inductees to be good ambassadors of the College and the University wherever they find themselves.
