The University’s Environmental Unit has been described as essential and strategic to the development and smooth running of the system.

The former Chairman, Security Committee, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, disclosed this at the send-forth party, organised in honour of retired security officers attached to the Environmental Unit of FUNAAB. According to him, safety and peace, which form ntegral parts of the official responsibilities of the Unit, constitute the bedrock for development, in moving the University forward.

“Your job is not the one which allows you sit is an air-conditioned office, but requires that you to be at your various beats – morning, afternoon and night -ensuring that the University has the right atmosphere, to move it forward”.
Professor Kehinde lauded them for their selfless service to the University, as he charged other serving officers to build on the foundation left behind by the retirees.

Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Office of Advancement, Mr Obafemi Oginni, said their job was unique in the sense that they were always at alert and awake when others were busy sleeping.

Earlier, Mr Adedigba Elegbede said the occasion was organized to appreciate members of staff that had demonstrated high level of commitment to their work, by contributing immensely to the development of the University, in terms of security.

The Assistant Chief Environmental Officer, Mr Sunday Bolarinwa commended the retired officers for the foundation which they had laid down, stressing that their efforts had paved the way for the Unit to be appreciated in the University. He, however, stated that the Unit would still be calling on them from time-to-time, to tap from their wealth of experience.

Officers that were honoured at the occasion included two former Chief Security Officers, Capt Sikiru Babatunde (Rtd.) and Mr Olukayode Ogunbanwo, Principal Environmental Officer, Mr Abubakar Osaya; Environmental Officer, Mr Aliu Adedokun; Assistant Environmental Officer, Mr Temilade Sanusi; Asst Environmental Officer, Mr Steven Folarin; Environmental Supervisor and Mr Waheed Sowunmi.
