Examination simply put is a test of knowledge or ability of students. It allows students to concentrate on their studies and further train them on various things like punctuality, writing skills, timing sense, expression of thought and opinion among others and equally motivate them in their studies.

Assessment of students and the integrity of the examination are of paramount importance to the management of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. The management has entrusted the actualization of this important roles to Timetable and Examination Committee (TIMTEC), FUNAAB. The Committee is quite aware of this enormous trust and responsibilities and will always strive to ensure that examination in FUNAAB is not compromised at any level.

Invigilation of examination is an important task that must not be undermined in conduct of examination. Invigilators have important roles within the examination period to ensure that examination runs effectively and is conducted in a fair and appropriate manner. For instance unless a matter is of extreme importance, students should not be interrupted during an examination. Invigilators are not expected to perform any other task during invigilation nor talk to each other unnecessarily. Therefore, routine training to invigilators and examination officers on “Ethics of Examination and Invigilation” is essential.

Training on conduct of examination and invigilation among other things allows invigilators to:

(i) Have a clearer understanding of their roles and tasks when invigilating

(ii) Feel confident in dealing with unexpected circumstances

(iii) Do their job more effectively

I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the University management for their determination to sustain the tradition of unrivalled examination that FUNAAB is known for by approving this training and provided the required support needed by TIMTEC to organise efficient examination. I also want to express my appreciation to Dean of Colleges, Directors and HODs, academic staff, TIMTEC members and staff from other units who are partners in the conduct of examination for their support and steadfastness.

I welcome participants to this training programme and encourage them to maximise the opportunity of the training. It is my hope that the management will grant other academic staff in the university the opportunity to undergo refresher training on “Ethics of Examination and invigilation”. Finally, I welcome our resource persons and thank them for their consistent support to TIMTEC.
