Succour will soon come the way of members of the University community as the Federal Roads Management Agency is set to reconstruct the FUNAAB – Camp Road.
Rising from a two-hour meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, with Principal Officers of the University, last Thursday, the FERMA’s Resident Engineer for Ogun State, Engr. Alex Mazoya, disclosed that work will commence on the six-kilometre road in two weeks’ time.
Engr. Mazoya gave the assurance in an exclusive chat with FUNAAB Bulletin shortly after the meeting with the University Management, which was witnessed by the Executives of the University’s Branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who coincidentally were having a separate meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, when Engr. Mazoya called in.

FB: Sir, can we meet you?
Engr. Mazoya: I am Engr. Alex Mazoya
FB: Could you please brief us on the purpose of your visit?
Engr. Mazoya: We are here to see how we can start work on the main
access road to the University.
FB: When are you starting?
Engr. Mazoya: Hopefully, we are looking at another one or two weeks
and God willing, we will be able to bring our contractors to site.
FB: Paucity of funds is always a major threat to proper execution of
this type of project. Are we likely to experience this?
Engr. Mazoya: We are going to ensure that we maximize the use of the
funds for the road.
FB: Great! It’s a privilege chatting with you.
Engr. Mazoya: It’s my pleasure.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyewole had described the reconstruction of the road as a topmost priority to the University.
He recalled that the road had witnessed series of patching over the years, pointing out that what was required was total reconstruction which he said had been a source of nightmare to members of the University community for many years.
The Chairman of ASUU, FUNAAB, Dr. Biodun Badmus, in his comments, said the road is strategic to the University.
“You can only get to our University through this road. One of the ways to showcase FUNAAB is that road. It is long overdue for total repairs”, he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor had during his maiden visit to Colleges, penultimate week, assured that his administration will expedite action at making government effect repairs on the road.
Professor Oyewole said: “The road is a Federal Government road. I don’t think the State Government will touch it. It will be done by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and we are seeing them soon”.
