The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken another innovative step in improving student academic performance and engagement with the commencement of the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) programme on November 23, 2024. The initiative, spearheaded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi was aimed at strengthening the University’s commitment to excellence through a structured peer-support system.
The PAL programme is a flagship project solely sponsored by the FUNAAB Alumni Association (Canada Branch), which has generously allocated an initial funding of ₦500,000 for its first year. This sponsorship underscored the Association’s dedication to the development of its alma mater. The group has also pledged to increase the funding in subsequent years, ensuring the sustainability and growth of the initiative.
PAL is designed to enhance collaborative learning by enabling students to support each other academically. The programme facilitates sessions where academically proficient students assist their peers in mastering challenging course materials, thereby bridging gaps in learning. Beyond academic support, PAL also promotes the development of essential life skills such as teaching, leadership, and communication, equipping participants to excel both within and beyond the classroom.
With the kickoff of the PAL programme, FUNAAB continues to reinforce its position as a hub for academic innovation and excellence. The University Community eagerly anticipates the positive impact the initiative would have on student outcomes in the years to come.
